Billy leaves the library. A crowd of reporters and cameramen are gathered outside. They recognize Billy and crowd around him. Billy turns and walks away from the reporter. He’s crowded by more media members. A cameraman tries to get a good shot. Billy turns back towards the library, but the librarian blocks the doorway. She tells him not to bring that noise inside. She crosses her arms and frowns. Billy turns and wades into the media. They harass him and he snaps, snarling at them. Those closest to him back off. He runs toward Main Street. Everyone follows him.
Dwayne heads towards Sid’s Delicious. A crowd of reporters and cameramen are gathered outside. They recognize Dwayne and crowd around him, blocking his entrance to Sid’s. They try to get an interview. Dwayne shoves a cameraman who gets in his personal space. The cameraman falls. He drops his camera and it breaks. Dwayne looks down in shame and hurries into the cafe. Billy approaches from a distance. He’s been watching. He heads for Sid’s. The members of the media continue to follow him.
Dwayne sits at Judith’s usual table. Billy comes in. He sees Dwayne and approaches. They commiserate about the press harassment. Dwayne waves his hand at the table, offering Billy a seat. Billy hesitates, then sits down. Dwayne is sympathetic about the press harassment. Billy asks why Dwayne is hanging out at Sid's. Dwayne says the wife’s giving him a lot of shit. Billy can barely contain his excitement. Dwayne says she’s been bitching at him about everything lately. He can’t do anything right. Dwayne says he bought a gun. And kept in a house with kids. Unsecured. Billy says that’s not a good idea. Dwayne says Judith won’t let him hear the end of it. Billy offers Dwayne the Hasley couch. Dwayne is surprised. He laughs awkwardly. He says no, but thanks for the offer. Billy stares at Dwayne, trying to figure out if Dwayne’s making fun of him or not. He decides Dwayne is NOT making fun of him, but he’s wary.
Crowds make their way inside for the game. It rains pretty steadily. The Warriors are playing in the second quarter against the Panama City Bay Tornadoes. Tukabatchee is up by 10 in the third quarter. A Panama City player dribbles down the court. Karl picks him up near midcourt. He smothers the opposing guard. The guard tries to pass the ball to a TEAMMATE, but Karl pokes the ball away. Theo tries to grab it, but it goes out of bounds. Karl claps his hands in frustration. Coach Gallant sees this and pulls Karl aside and tells him he's playing good defense and to keep up the intensity. Karl runs back to play defense. The guard dribbles in his direction. The guard takes a shot. Karl blocks it and Aaron grabs the ball. The crowd goes wild. Aaron passes to Theo, who dunks. A Panama City player shoots a jumper and misses. Theo grabs the rebound. Karl takes a three and swishes it. Panama City passes the ball around the perimeter two times, then they find the open center for a dunk. Aaron drains a drains a jumper. A Panama City player posts up and attempts a lay-up, but Theo blocks it. Karl recovers the ball and starts a fast break. Karl drains a three. The game is over. Tukabatchee wins 101-63. The crowd mobs the jubilant Tukabatchee players.
Coach Gallant stands before the players, who continue to celebrate in the locker room. Gallant says that was a good win. A strong win. But just a win. If the team doesn’t win one more, today’s win didn’t do much. They need one more win. They didn’t do enough to make the state tournament. He says let’s get this one more win first. If they win the next game, they’re district champions. That’ll be with them forever. No one can take that away from them. So give the same effort and execution one more time, then they can take a break. He tells them to get out of there and get some rest. Gallant heads for his office. The players get rambunctious as they change and shower.
The rain falls on the burned down mall. The flamethrowers took the whole structure down. Two buses pull up to the entrance. Workers in hazmat suits get out and head inside the mall carrying empty buckets. The buses drive away. Four empty dump trucks replace them at the entrance. Inside, the workers spread out. Each pair of workers get a section to clean up. The FOREMAN holds up a megaphone and starts speaking. The workers turn to listen. He tells them to keep their eyes open and sty away from anything blue. The workers exchange looks of fear. If they see anything blue, they are to immediately come get him.
A series of shots: Workers scooping up debris and putting it their buckets. Workers carrying the buckets outside and emptying them in the dump trucks. Workers collaborating to carry larger pieces of debris and throwing it the dump trucks. What’s left of a store wall collapses and nearly crushes several workers. A worker comes across fresh blue fuzz growing on a burnt wall in what used to be an Orange Julius. He screams and falls backwards, landing on his butt. He scrambles to his feet and runs towards the entrance. He almost trips as he goes outside.
The worker who fled the mall is on the far side of the dump trucks. He is Simmons. He paces back-and-forth, his hazmat suit half off to reveal a white t-shirt. He smokes a cigarette and runs his hand through his hair. He’s very agitated. The leader approaches and asks Simmons what the hell is wrong with him. He tells Simmons he can’t smoke that close to so much flammable stuff. Simmons flicks his cigarette on the ground and stomps it out. The leader asks Simmons what he's doing outside his suit. Simmons says he isn't going back in there. He saw the blue fuzz. The leader notes the infection is airborne. Simmons gets a panicked look on his face. He takes a few deep breaths and calms down. He says there's nothing he can do about it now, but he's not going back in. The leader opens one of the luggage bays at the bottom of the bus. He pulls out a flamethrower and straps it on. Simmons tells him the blue fuzz is in the back. Used to be Orang Julius. Next to the Borders sign. The leader heads inside. The leader burns the old Orange Julius. And the old Borders. Just to be sure.
Judith stands on a newly-erected stage in town square. A crowd of more than 100 people have gathered, as well as the numerous reporters and cameramen who are in town. Deputy Marks stands on stage behind Judith. He scans the crowd, ever alert. Judith thanks them for being here today. She can’t tell them how much it means to her. She is running for mayor of Tukabatchee. She decided to run for mayor because she saw some problems arise and saw the current establishment of the town ignore them, or worse, profit off them. She hasn’t lived here as long as some have, but she's grown to love it here time here. It’s a great town. She's going to fight as hard as she can to defend her home, especially against people who should know better. Should be better. But it’s not gonna be easy. And she's gonna need them to help her. There are many ways they help: they can donate, they can volunteer, they can canvass, they can make phone calls, whatever. If they have time to give, she’ll put you to work. If they want to donate or volunteer, talk to Audrey after the event and she’ll be happy to take down their information. Together, with their help, she can win this thing for the people of Tukabatchee! She thanks them and asks God to bless Tukabatchee and the United States of America. The crowd goes wild.
Later, Judith, Audrey and Marks huddle close to the stage. The crowd is mostly gone and continues to disperse. Audrey says that went super well. Judith can't tell. Marks agrees with Audrey. Audrey holds up her notebook and starts reading. They got pledges of over $10,000. Judith is surprised. Only about $1,500 in cash. The rest was pledged by Frank Sardos. Judith thought there was a cap on how much an individual could give? Audrey says there is. It’s $500. But Frank can give for himself, his wife can give $500, each of his kids can give $500 and each of his legally-registered businesses can give $500. Judith asks how many ‘legally-registered businesses’ does he have. Audrey says a lot. More than she can count. They also got 40 or so volunteer sign-ups. Out of 100 or 120 attendees. Judith notes that essentially a third or so of the crowd signed up. Audrey says that's a lot. Judith says if they had a good day. Audrey says they had a VERY good day. The women grin at each other.
It rains heavily on the Early Home. Everyone’s cars are present. Deputy Marks sits in his car, working on his laptop. Plastic sheeting covers the hole that was the front door. Kyra and Dwayne sit in the living room, watching the Weather Channel. Kyra turns the sound down. She turns to Dwayne. She says she feels bad about sharing the pictures of George and Ricky. She says she was wrong. Dwayne nods. He’s impressed. She says it didn’t do anything, anyway. The polls say nobody cares. Dwayne asks if that means it wasn’t worth it because it didn’t work. Kyra shakes her head. Kyra says no, it wasn’t worth it in any event. She says real people get hurt no matter what happens to George. Things are bad enough for gay people around here, without her piling on. Dwayne asks what she's gonna do about it. She says she can’t take the pictures back. But she can make sure that no one else can get ahold of them. Dwayne frowns and says they’ve already been put in the online story about it from channel 7. Kyra says she can’t worry about that. She can’t change the past, but she did delete them from her phone, so no one else can get them from her. And she's decided to volunteer for Equality Florida. Dwayne says he and Judith donated to them for the election. He says he's proud of her. They hug.
The rain has lightened up. Kyra works with the metal scraps in the back yard. She sorts the scraps according to size. Karl walks outside. He asks Kyra what she's doing. She says she started working on her art again. He says that’s good, but couldn’t she wait until it stopped raining. She says it’s always raining now. Karl chuckles. He says they are in the middle of a hurricane. She says, yeah, Hurricane Karl. This is all his fault. They both laugh. He says he's gonna go. The basketball game is on. It’s good to see her creating again. He smiles and goes inside.
Karl sits on the couch, watching Golden State vs. Sacramento. The Warriors are up by 12. Steph Curry drains a three. Karl pumps his fist in the air. A newsbreak interrupts the game. An anchorperson reads from a piece of paper, saying the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Department has issued an arrest warrant for Russell Hasley. He’s being sought in connection with an assault on an unnamed juvenile, whose name has been withheld because of his age. District Attorney Regan Walters said he was going to fast-track prosecution. He wants Hasley behind bars as soon as possible. Karl smiles. The anchorperson says it remains unknown how the case will affect the mayoral campaign of George Hasley, the accused’s brother. Who, and she couldn’t make this up, is running against Judith Early, the mother of the juvenile. Florida Man, indeed. Karl laughs. The television switches back to the basketball game. Meredith comes in and joins Karl on the couch. He looks at her closely as she does. He tells her she looks a lot better. She says she feels a lot better. He asks if she wasn't supposed to stay sick a lot longer. Meredith shrugs. Judith stands behind them, having overheard their conversation. Judith puts the back of her hand on Meredith’s forehead. No fever. Judith says she's going to call Dr. Tagachi. Judith walks out of the living room. Karl goes back to watching the game.
While the Hasley home looks relatively untouched, this is the worst the junkyard has ever looked. The rain doesn’t clean anything, it just makes everything wet. Russell stares out the window at the Early home. He’s clearly fuming. He rubs his wound, then goes and sits on the couch. Fred walks in the room and joins Russell on the couch. Russell complains that Karl reported him to the sheriff. It was on the news just now. He gestures towards the TV, which show the sports report on mute. Russell says they’re gonna arrest me. Fred is shocked. Russell says he may have broken Karl's hand first. Fred is shocked. He stares at his brother. Fred asks what he's gonna do. Russell says he's gonna get Karl Early if it’s the last thing he does. Fred stares at Russell, concerned.
The local chapter of Equality Florida meets in the back room at Sid’s. Kyra sits among the organization’s volunteers. At the front of the room are the volunteer leaders: Steve and Lina. Steve thanks everyone for coming. Lina says their support means so much. The audience responds with snaps. Steve says it's time to talk about their big agenda item. Lina says they’re gonna need everyone’s help on this one. She says that over the years, they’ve built a pretty good list of donors who live in the storm’s path. They’re going to call or canvass every home on the list, making sure everybody is safe and helping connect anyone who needs services to the best resource for them. Snaps from the crowd. Steve passes around a sign-up sheet. Nina says to include your days and hours of availability. And include your phone number, so they can be contacted.
Kyra walks up to Steve and Lina. They smile to greet her. Kyra says she really wants to volunteer as much time as she can. Lina says they’re extra worried about people during the storm. They’re seeing a particularly nasty mayoral race, where both sides are attacking their community. Kyra says they can sign her up for 20 hours a week. Steve whistles. Lina grins. Nina hands Kyra a clipboard and pen. Kyra takes the clipboard and starts writing.
Meredith approaches the front of the school. Fred sees her and approaches. Fred's surprised she's back at school. She's not, she's there to get her make-up work. They walk in silence for a while. Meredith apologizes about last time. Fred apologizes in return. They both chuckle. Fred opens the door for Meredith and she goes inside. He follows. Meredith and Fred walk down the school hallway. She says she's sorry about his father. She asks how Russell is. Fred says he shouldn't say. Fred says Russell told him he broke Karl’s hand on purpose. But he told the cops it was an accident. She asks if he's gonna tell the cops. He says, you mean rat out his brother. She says he committed numerous crimes. Fred says, doesn't everybody. She says no, very few people assault kids or loot from their neighbor’s home. Fred looks down, guilty. She continues the guilt trip and he agrees to do it for her. She asks why, as it’s got to be a tough decision for him. He says she's the only one who has ever been nice to him. He figured it’s about time he returned he favor. Meredith holds back her tears. She hugs Fred. He’s reluctant at first, then he returns the hug.
Karl stands at his locker. He puts his old books in the locker and gets the new ones. He shuts the locker. Tameka stands before him. She says she's coming to his house after school. To visit Meredith. Karl nods his head. He watches Tameka walk away.
Tameka, Darci and Valentina sit on the couch with Meredith. They’re watching “K-Pop Demonhunters” and giggling. Darci asks Meredith if she's dating Fred now. Meredith says eww, no. Everyone giggles. Valentina asked what is going on. Meredith says she feels sorry for him. Valentina says he comes across as a dirty, poor redneck. Meredith says that's a horrible, mean thing to say. Tameka agrees. Valentina backs down. Meredith tells them to take it easy on Fred. The other girls all nod. Meredith says to turn it up and start singing. Darci turns the volume up. All the girls start singing.
Tameka knocks gently on Karl’s bedroom door. Karl opens the door. She asks if he's free to talk. Karl nods and invites Tameka into his room with a flourish of his arm. She walks in. He leaves the door open.
A sheriff’s car pulls up outside the Hasley home, lights flashing. Two deputies get out and knock on the front door. George answers. The first deputy looks at his clipboard and asks if he's Russell. George says no, he’s my brother. The deputy asks if Russell is home. George asks what it's about. The deputy says he can only tell Russell. Confidentiality and all. George goes to get Russell. The deputies exchange a look of trepidation. Russell opens the door. George and Barbra stand behind them. The deputies arrest Russell. Barbra asks what this is about. The deputy says Russell is over 18, so he can’t tell her anything. Russell can call her from the station after they book him. Russell tears up as the deputies escort him to the car. The deputies put Russell in the back of the car and shut the door. Russell puts his hand on the glass and stares at his mom, tears in his eyes.
Tameka sits on the bed; Karl in the chair at his desk. Karl asks what's up. Tameka says she misses him. Karl tries not to grin. He fails. He says he misses her, too. They stare at each other for a moment, not knowing what’s next. Tameka says if they started seeing each other again, they’d have to do it in secret. Karl smiles and says he can handle that. She asks if he can, saying it’s not gonna be easy. Karl grows more somber. He wants to try. Tameka does, too. They both stand up. They kiss as passionately as they can for their age.
The sheriff’s car pulls into the lot and parks next to the building. The deputies get Russell out of the car and escort the cuffed teen inside, rain falling on his head. The deputies escort Russell inside. The deputies take Russell’s mugshot. The deputies take Russell’s thumbprints. The deputies lock Russell in a community cell. There are four other white men in the cell. Russell grabs an empty bench spot, as far away from the others as possible. The closest cellmate is Garrity. He leans forward to talk to Russell. Russell ignores him. Garrity gets more aggressive. He snaps his fingers to get Russell’s attention. Russell finally responds. Garrity asks Russell what he's in for. Russell is defensive. Garrity says he's just making conversation. If Russell wants to wallow in silent misery, be his guest. Russell sits with Garrity’s words for a while. He says he's in for assault. Garrity says the big man’s been beating people up. He asks if Russell is a tough guy. He says nah, he was younger, smaller than Russell. Garrity angrily asks if Russell likes beating up on little kids. Russell says no, he’s not little. He’s an athlete. High school basketball. Garrity asks what school the kid plays for. Russell tells him it's Tukabatchee. Garrity says that’s fine. Nobody gives a shit about Tukahatchee or whatever. If he had said Pace, he woulda had to beat Russell's ass. But Tallabatchee? Fuck them. Russell and Garrity both laugh.
The hospital is quiet. The rain is steady. Judith and Meredith run in, trying to stay dry beneath umbrellas. Judith and Meredith enter the hospital. As they walk down the hall, the see Simmons in one of the rooms. They don’t know him, so they don’t notice, but Simmons is very sick. He’s on a respirator. They arrive at Dr. Tagachi’s office. Judith knocks on the door. Tagachi opens the door. Judith reminds him he told them to contact him if anything weird happened. Tagachi nods. She says Meredith’s better. Completely better. Tagachi stares for a moment.
He tells them to come into his office. They go inside Dr. Tagachi’s office and he shuts the door.
Dr. Tagachi finishes examining Meredith, who wears a hospital gown and sits on an examining table. He says her condition is beyond him. She needs to go to the CDC and be further examined. She's being quarantined. She’ll have to be isolated. Meredith is afraid. She starts to cry. Meredith tells her mother not worry, she can handle it. It's the only way she can get healthy. Tagachi opens the door and comes back in. Following him are two men in Hazmat suits. He tells Meredith to go with them. She stands up an follows the Hazmat suited-men into the hall. Judith tells Meredith she loves her. Meredith says the same. The Hazmat-suited men escort Meredith down the hall.
Judith walks into the waiting room and pulls out her phone. She dials Dwayne and tells him they took Meredith. He asks what she is talking about. Judith says she took Meredith to Dr. Tagachi. He had some men come in and take her. To Washington, D.C. Dwayne is quiet for a moment. He says they must know what they're doing. Judith gets angry and asks if that's all he's got to say. Judith hangs up.
Judith, Audrey and Deputy Marks sit at Judith’s regular table. Audrey lifts a medium-sized mail bag and puts it on the table. Judith asks what it is. Audrey says it's campaign mail. Audrey pulls one of the letters out of the bag and opens it. She finds a check made out to the campaign. She says it's a check for $50. Judith and Marks exchange a look of surprise. Everybody grabs handfuls of letters and starts opening envelopes. Judith, Audrey and Marks finish. The mail bag is empty. Multiple stacks of opened letters sit on an additional table the campaign has commandeered. Judith asks for details. Audrey says the topline is that there’s more than $5,000 worth of contributions here. Marks whistles. Judith grabs Audrey’s notebook and double-checks Audrey’s math. It checks out and Judith nods. Then smiles. Judith says that’s a hell of a start. Marks asks if campaigns usually start with that much money. Judith and Audrey both say no. Audrey puts her hand on each stack of papers as she talks about it. Okay, the stacks are questionnaires to answer, media requests, people asking about your stances, people telling you what her positions should be. The last two are small stacks. They contain threats and death threats. Judith asks Marks to look into the threats and death threats. He says yes and takes the stacks. Audrey grabs the stack of media requests and hands it to Judith.
Barbara stands at the head of the table. All her sons except Russell are present. Billy and Fred are horsing around. She tells them to quiet down. She says she's back now. And things are gonna change around here. She says they'll find out about the changes. George and Billy exchange looks of concern.
George and Billy walk along the driveway, wearing coats as the rain falls more lightly than earlier. George asks if Billy was scared of the BSCS guys. Billy says not at first, but by the end, he wondered if they were gonna keep going with the other hand. He holds up his broken hand, now in a cast. George apologizes and says he didn't know. Billy doesn't believe him. George swears he's serious. Billy looks at him sharply. Billy stares him down, but eventually he caves. Billy asks him what's next. George says he's not sure, he'll have to think about it. Barbra comes out of her bedroom and heads towards the front door. She tells George to be there when she gets back. George asks why. She smacks him upside his head and says if not, he'll get more of that. George shrinks away from his mother. Barbra walks to her car and drives away.
Everything is quiet. One of the blue, many-legged snakes runs across the junkyard, hiding as a car approaches. The car bears the town seal on it, a lighthouse on the edge of the Gulf. An inspector gets out of the car. He walks into the junkyard, looking around as he goes. The inspector approaches the front door of the Hasley home. He knocks on the door and looks down at his clipboard. George opens the door. An inspector from the town tells him the junkyard is an internal and external hazard. Gotta shut it down. He hands George a form. He tells George he's bringing some trucks and they’re gonna haul all this crap away. George shrugs and shuts the door. The Inspector leaves.
George ruffles through papers in his parents’ room. Billy pokes his head in the room and asks what he's doing. George says it's none of his business. Billy says tell him or he'll tell their mother. George calls him a child and says this is why nobody lets him be in charge of anything. Billy is wounded. George goes back to rifling through the papers. He says mom cut him off. He has no money. He's broke. He needs to find evidence that she cut me off. Or some password or something. He can’t let her get away with it. That’s their father's money, not their mom's. Billy is skeptical. George waves him off and keeps digging. George finds the new will. He sets it aside and keeps looking. He finds an old copy of the will and pulls it out. George puts the two wills side-by-side and starts examining them closely. He finds the part where he was given money in the old will, $100,000 to be exact. That passage is gone from the new will. George calls Billy over and points to the signatures on the two documents. They’re wildly different. Even Billy can tell. George gathers up the papers and goes out the front door. George takes the papers to his car and locks them in the trunk. He goes back inside.
Several dump trucks pull into the junkyard. A van follows them. The vehicles stop and a dozen men emerge from the vehicles. They’re dressed in hazmat suits. The men move into the junkyard and start carrying anything they can lift. The take the junk and toss it in the dump trucks. A hazmat worker walks through the junkyard’s wreckage, water dripping from his Geiger counter. The readings are at their strongest near an old steel Army footlocker. He turns around and makes his way back to the van. The leader from the mall clean-up is leading this group as well. The worker tells the leader his Geiger counter has the highest reading he's ever seen. The leader asks where he got the reading. The worker says it was in the back of the junkyard. The worker walks him to the back and shows him the foot locker. Then he gets as far away as he can. The leader looks closer. He sees blue fuzz growing on and around the foot locker. A lot of it. He pulls out his phone as he walks back to his car. He dials a number. He tells his boss they have blue fuzz and radioactive material. His boss asks if the radioactive material is attracting the monsters. The leader says it fits the pattern. His boss says he'll send a team. He tells them to get out of there. The leader hangs up. He whistles and twirls his hand above his head. He says he needs to talk to the homeowner, then they'll leave. He approaches the front door of the Hasley home. The leader stands inside the house, dripping on the floor. He’s talking with Barbra, who has returned. Barbra drives up in her car and parks away from the dump trucks. The leader says the junkyard is contaminated. They don’t know what it is, but they know it’s radioactive. He says they should 1. Don’t go out in the junkyard. 2. Have everyone who lives in the house go to the doctor ASAP. 3. They’ll send out a special team to clean it up. As soon as they can. He leaves. Barbra stares after him, she’s concerned. Barbra comes inside. The boys are all in their bedrooms. She calls them out. Only George complies. George says Billy’s sick. He was throwing up earlier. He’s zonked out. Barbra frowns. Fred slowly comes into the room. He’s clearly sick. Barbra puts the back of her hand on Fred’s forehead. Barbra tells him to go back to bed. If they stay sick, she'll take them to the E.R. Fred staggers back to his room
Karl and Dwayne watch the news. Kiki Williams is the anchor. She reports that there was a shooting between family members of the two mayoral candidates. Police have arrested Russell Hasley, brother of mayoral candidate George Hasley and son of the late Tukabatchee mayor, Charlie Hasley. Russell Hasley allegedly assaulted an underage member of mayoral candidate Judith Hasley’s family. After the assault, Russell and his brothers invaded the Early home and started looting. That’s when the Early victim shot Russell Hasley. Russell was treated and released. Since then, police apprehended him at his home, which is next door to the Early home. Dwayne turns the TV off. Dwayne remarks that they finally got it right. Karl says it's about time. Dwayne tells him to do his homework while Dwayne prepares dinner. Karl heads for his room. Dwayne goes into the kitchen.
The gym is packed for the District Title game against the Pensacola Woodham Titans. Karl takes the ball down the court. Tukabatchee is up by 6 in the third. Karl driving the lane, getting an easy lay-up. Score 88-80. Tuckabatchee leads. A Titans player shoots a lay-up, but Theo blocks it. Aaron recovers. Karl drains a three. And another. And another. He shrugs like Michael Jordan as he runs back down the court. In the 4th quarter, there are less than 5 minutes left. Tukabatchee is up by 21. Coach Gallant calls a time out. He pulls his starters from the game. They walk off the court to thunderous applause. They’re district champs.
Hurricane Carl slams the coast. The storm surge covers the highway. The storm is very clearly moving onto land.
Rain pours heavily on the darkened prison. Very few lights are on. Vice Warden Morty Martin sits at Bryant’s desk. He’s on the phone. He says no, he has no idea where the warden is. He slams the phone down. Tugenbund soldiers flood into various parts. Prisoners run from the Tugenbund men, who are heavily armed. Once inside, the Tugenbund men start shooting. They take out prisoners an guards indiscriminately. The prisoners’ cells are open and they run away from the gunfire. The prison guards join them. A group of prisoners including Ronnie, Ricky, Michael and Jackson crowd down a hallway, along with two guards. Michael leads a group that overwhelms the two guards and takes their weapons and keys. Michael leads a group of prisoners towards the prison’s administrative area and unlocks it. They go to the prison’s armory and Michael unlocks the door. They arm themselves and spread out into the prison. Tugenbund men move quietly down prison halls and past empty cells. The prisoners, now armed, attack. Some use automatic rifles, some pistols, some use batons or other blunt objects. Some have grabbed knives from the kitchen. The Tugenbund men are surprised and many of them go down. The remaining Tugenbund men retreat and gather outside the prison. The prisoners cheer as the soldiers leave. The prison guards try to reclaim control, but too many prisoners are armed and they attack the guards with savagery.
The rain is a bit lighter outside the library. A few random patrons hurry inside. In a library meeting room, Maggie stands at the podium. She looks at her watch. The room is empty. Maggie waits for anyone to arrive, but no one comes. A Librarian comes in. She says that bouncy ball aerobics for seniors starts in 15 minutes. They’re gonna need the room. Maggie gives her an ugly look. She waves the Librarian away. She waits, fuming with anger. She sees volunteers approaching the room, carrying giant bouncy balls. She packs her stuff and walk out in a huff.
At the BSCS Lodge, the Tugenbund leader, Cole, sits at the head of the table. Other Tugenbund leaders sit with him. A staffer pulls out a tablet and brings up the latest intelligence report, that 12 of their men were taken down, along with 17 prisoners and four prison guards. He says the prisoners got into the armory. It seems they took the initiative. Cole tells him to send in the death squad. He says to kill everyone. The staffer nods and he rushes out of the room.
Maggie walks away from the library and pass in front of several homes. One of them has a yard sign that says “Judith Early for Mayor.” Maggie pulls the yard sign and swings it like a hammer against the street, repeatedly. It shatters and tears. She says she’ll stop Judith from being mayor, if it’s the last thing she does. She tosses the broken sign aside and walks away in a huff.
The Tugenbund Death Squad men arrive at the prison. They launch tear gas cannisters into every part of the prison. The death squad soldiers enter the prison with face masks on, heavily armed with machine guns. They gun down the prisoners and guards until they’re all dead. They head back outside. Multiple FBI vans pull up near the front door. Dozens of armed FBI agents jump out, led by Bundy. Numerous FBI agents tell the Tugenbund men to “freeze.” Instead of freezing, they open fire on the FBI agents. The agents hide as well as they can and return fire. Men start dropping on both sides.
Judith and Audrey sit at their regular table. Marks stand near the front door, giving them privacy. Judith asks why they're meeting. Audrey says she got offered a job in New York. She winces at the angry reaction she expects from Judith. It doesn’t come, so Audrey continues. The new job pays three times the most she ever earned in Tukabatchee. She waits for Judith to react. Judith tells her to take it. Audrey is happily surprised. Audrey stands. So does Judith. They hug. Audrey says she didn’t think Judith would let her go. Judith asks how she could stand in Audrey's way. They hold the hug a bit longer.
Dwayne and Judith go outside, despite the force of Hurricane Karl. She points towards the barn. The roof has been torn off and the bonsai trees are all destroyed. Dwayne goes inside.
