Dwayne, Judith, Kyra and Karl watch the end oh “Tales from the Hood.” Dwayne loves it. Judith tolerates it. Kyra and Karl don’t. A commercial comes on. Judith grabs the remote and mutes the TV. She announces she's running for mayor. Dwayne is puzzled. The kids applaud. Kyra stares at Judith for a while. Then she gets up and goes outside. The movie comes back on. Karl goes outside, looking for Kyra.
The rain falls heavy on the gulf waters at Tukabatchee State Park. The surface of the waters break and a beast flies into the sky. It resembles a flying dinosaur, but is covered in glowing blue fur. It has an extra leg that hangs lifelessly below its body. It roars into the night sky. Lights go on in houses nearby. The beast flies towards the Hasley home.
Russell stands outside the front door, clearly waiting for someone, he nervously eyes the driveway. A car parks at the end of the driveway. Russell stares at it warily. A young man, Gordo, wearing a hoodie that says “Bark at the Moon,” gets out of the front passenger side and walks down the driveway. Russell watches the man approach and speaks when he gets close. He confirms the man is Gordo. He sells Gordo a bag of meth. Something in the junkyard makes a sound. Russell waves it off as the dog. Gordo walks back up the driveway and gets in his car. Russell watches him drive away. Russell hears something moving in the junkyard and whips his head in that direction. He walks towards it.
Karl walks out of the darkness, headed for his home. Russell asks Karl what he's doing. Karl says he's looking for Kyra. Russell moves to block Karl from getting home. Russell threatens him not to come on the Hasley property again. Karl rips free from Russell’s grip and he runs home. Russell tries to catch him, but Karl is too agile. Russell goes back inside, slamming the door behind him.
Karl and Theo play catch with a football. Karl throws hard, harder than you would during a normal game of catch. The ball loudly smacks Theo’s hand. He shakes his left hand, trying to will the pain away. Theo tells him to chill. Karl say he's just distracted. Karl throws the ball, but he throws it too high and it bounces into the open barn. Theo walks towards the barn. He looks back at Karl and then goes inside. Karl runs to catch up.
Theo and Karl enter the barn, looking for the football. Theo looks around, in awe of the bonsai trees. He's never seen one in real life before, only on TV. Both boys wander through the barn, checking out the bonsai trees. Looking for the ball, Theo wanders towards the back of the barn. He sees the blanket on the shelf and pulls it away to reveal Dwayne’s gun. He holds the gun up so Karl can see it. Karl rushes towards Theo and grabs the gun. Karl takes the gun and tucks into the back of his pants.
Theo walks towards the front of the barn and looks closely at the tarp-covered monster. He asks what it is. Karl shows him. Theo’s eyes grow huge. Karl doesn't know what it is. The dead beast is the size of a wolf, but is hairless with lizard-like skin. It has a blue glow that is fading. Theo asks what they're gonna do with it. Karl shrugs. He covers up the monster again. Karl walks out of the barn. Theo stares at the covered monster for a moment, then follows Karl.
Karl walks into his bedroom, Theo follows. Karl takes the gun from the back of his pants. He stuffs it between the mattresses of his bed. Karl and Theo exchange concerned looks.
Russell hangs out waiting for another customer. He hears noise from the junkyard. He turns that way and walks towards the junkyard, which is still in disarray from the storm. Russell thinks it's Karl and calls out. No one answers. Russell stares for a while. He turns to walk back to the house. A scrap of metal crashes to the ground behind him. He whirls around and sees the flying monster rise from the junkyard and flies straight at Russell. He ducks but the monster slashes at him, cutting his face. Russell screams. The monster flies away.
Karl and Tameka walk into Sid’s Delicious. They’re dressed up nice. They are on a date. Karl holds the chair out while Tameka sits. Karl sits down across from Tameka. She jokes that it took him long enough to ask her out. He says he's worth the wait. She says she'll be the judge of that. Allie approaches. She asks if they're on a date. They say they are and Allie thinks it's awesome.
Karl wipes his face with his napkin, then places it on his plate. He’s done. Tameka still has a bit left. She intends to finish it and does. He asks how her meal is. She says it's great. He says there's better food in the big city. She asks him to take her sometime. He says he will. She says she could get used to this. Karl grins. Tameka does as well.
Judith sits at a table at the Santa Rosa Count Library, doing research. Billy spies on her from behind the stacks. She catches on pretty quickly this time. She speaks under her breath, saying "I’m gonna get this little freak." She stands up. Billy hides. Judith walks straight to Billy and stands with his arms crossed. Billy stands up. He says "Leave me alone. I’m not doing nothing." She says he's got to be kidding. Billy doesn’t say anything. She asks him why is he stalking her. He says he's in love with her. She says he's got to be kidding. Billy feels shame and starts to walk away. Judith grabs his arm and stops him. She says "And I don’t care how strong your feelings are, you can’t have me. I’m a married woman... A HAPPILY married woman and I’m not gonna mess that up for a skinny-ass white guy." She glares at Billy. She asks if he's going to leave her alone and he says yes. Billy walks out of the library, his head hanging down. Judith goes back to her seat. She’s embarrassed, so she avoids the stares of other library patrons.
George walks into the conference room at the McKinney Ad Agency, escorted by a secretary. He greets and shakes hands with Sherman McKinney. McKinney looks at a picture of Kyra and Allie kissing outside Sid’s Delicious. McKinney says it's a good photo with a sleazy voice, while leering at the photo. He asks George how he wants to use he photo. He says the best ROI is gonna be a mailer. Sent to every voter in Santa Rosa county. George pulls out two bundles of $1oo bills and tells McKinney to bill him for the rest. McKinney takes the cash and locks it in drawer in his desk. They shake hands.
Charley sleeps quietly in the bed at the Stroke Recovery Center. Barbra sits at the table, flipping through a family album. She sees early campaign photos from Charley’s first run for mayor. Barbra’s in the photos. She’s very active in campaigning. She’s not in the background. She says she used to run that shit. She stares at the photos with nostalgia. A tear runs down her cheek. She looks at Charley. She says she's gonna run shit again. She slams the album shut.
Kyra walks outside her home and grabs the mail from the mailbox at the end of the driveway. She goes back inside with a stack of mail. She sorts through the mail, placing items not for her on the counter. She keeps a few envelopes that are for her. Then she finds a mailer from George’s mayoral campaign. One side of the mailer is a picture of Kyra and Allie kissing. The caption says “Taking over Tukabatchee?” Kyra flips the mailer over. The other side says “Are LESBIANS taking over are town and destroying OUR values.” Kyra starts crying.
Dwayne walks into the kitchen. He asks what's wrong. She hands him the mailer. He glances at both sides. He frowns. He rips up the mailer and throws it in the trash can. He asks why she's worried about that trash. He hugs her. She's afraid everyone's gonna see it. Dwayne says "So what? Fuck ‘em!" Kyra agrees. She goes to get ready for work.
Kyra walks back into the kitchen, dressed for work. She picks up a small package. It’s addressed to Karl. She calls him. He comes in and opens the package. It's a Steph Curry rookie card. Dwayne ordered it for him after he made varsity. Karl hugs him, he loves it. Kyra kisses Dwayne on the cheek and heads to work. Dwayne keeps grinning. He’s happy with himself.
Meredith sits up in her bed. She’s surrounded by Tameka, Darci and Valentina. The girls want to go to a movie on Saturday. Meredith says there's no chance her mom will let her go. She tells them they've been too hard on Fred. Darci calls him a loser. Valentina says he was saying bad things about Meredith. She said "It doesn’t matter, he comes from an abusive family" and "If you’re going to bully him, I don’t want to hang out with you." Meredith looks at them stone-faced. No one says anything. After a few seconds, Darci leaves. Valentina follows. Tameka stares at Meredith, almost pleading for her to say something else. Meredith stares back. In response to the silence, Tameka leaves. Meredith starts crying, then she slumps down and goes to sleep. She passes out.
Kyra sits on a bench in the town square, eating her lunch. George and Ricky stroll into the park, far away from the bench Kyra sits on. George and Ricky are discreet, but Kyra sees them being overly familiar. She grins. She pulls out her phone and discretely snaps a lot of pictures. George and Ricky think they’re slick and give each other a kiss. Kyra gets excited and keeps snapping pics. George and Ricky slip inside the public restroom.
Kyra rushes into the house. She calls out to her dad and he comes out if the bedroom. She show him the pics of George and Ricky kissing. Dwayne’s eyes go big! He asks what she's gonna do with them. She says turnabout is fair play. She says she changed her mind because George took the low road.
Barbra sits on the bed next to Charley, who is barely coherent. She holds papers up where he would be able to see them if he was fully awake. She holds up his hand and mimes him signing the papers, while she signs them herself. She does this several more times. Once she’s done, she examines the signatures. She thinks she did a good job. She walks out of the room, a grin on her face.
Kyra sits in an office chair facing a desk at the Channel 7 Offices. The nameplate on the door says “Rina Hause, Producer.” Behind the desk is Rina. Rina flips through pictures of George and Dwayne. Most aren’t too salacious, but the last one show them engaged in a kiss. Rina is shocked. She asks what Kyra wants to do with the pics. She’d like to see them on the news. She thinks the people of Tukabatchee should know what the guy running for mayor does in his spare time. Rina says they can run a piece on it at 11 o’clock. It's their most-watched broadcast.
Audrey sits across the desk from Chelsea Warner. Audrey says she started the business roundtable by herself. She's the only name on the paperwork. Warner says Audrey definitely wants to sue Maggie. But it’s going to take a long time. It won’t end, good or bad, until after the election. Warner pulls out a legal pad and starts taking notes.
Kyra and Dwayne sit watching TV. The news is on and the anchorperson, Kiki Williams reads from a stack of papers. Kiki reports on breaking news tonight: are a mayoral candidate and county commissioner engaged in a torrid gay affair? Kyra and Dwayne exchange a look of apprehension. Kyra and Dwayne stay tuned.
Audrey leads a meeting of the full membership of the Roundtable. She says she has a letter from her lawyer. It says that she has exclusive ownership of the organization and she can run it as she sees fit. So any previous elections, any previous endorsements, anything not conducted under her direction was conducted illegally and is null and void. The crowd is shocked. Most of all, Maggie, who stands at the back of the room. Audrey's shutting the organization down. Maggie says she's going to start her own organization, but Audrey says no one cares.
Kyra stands in the kitchen as Judith cooks dinner. Kyra looks for ideas on how to wow Allie. The phone rings. Judith answers it. Anna wants to meet with her. Now. Judith says the most beautiful thing in Santa Rosa County is the beaches. How about a picnic on the beach? Kyra loves the idea.
Kyra stands in the kitchen eating ramen next to the sink. Her Phone rings. She answers on the third ring. It's Rina. She says their efforts don’t move the numbers even the slightest. Her best guess is there isn’t anybody who is movable on the issue. People are either 100% for it or 100% against it and political ads don’t change anyone’s mind.
Judith walks up to Town Square. She looks around until she sees Anna, sitting on a bench. Judith sits next to Anna. Anna gives her pics and info about the prison. She says to take it to the news.
At the Tugenbund Corporate Headquarters, in an undisclosed location, a group of men and women sit around a circular table. The room is dim and everyone’s face is in the shadows. The LEADER stands at the head of the table. The leader says the oil rigs are fake. The boxes regulate access to another dimension; a dimension called “Dimension X.” Dimension X has an abundance of natural resources and there is no life with intelligence. Well, no life with HIGHER intelligence. The locals have been managing these portals poorly. Things have been slipping through. They're going to have to take over in Santa Rosa county in Florida.
Judith sits across the desk from Sheriff Boone in his office. He asks what he can do for her. She says she's running for mayor and she needs protection. She's had a stalker, although she's keeping the stalker's identity for now. If he doesn't quit, she'll report him. She's giving him a chance to turn over a new leaf. Boone calls in Marks, who is a young rookie. He is assigned to protect Judith. Judith and Marks stand outside. She tells him he can start after the hurricane.
The rhinoceros-sized monster last seen in episode 4 roars then walks down the street towards the Santa Rosa mall. As it enters the parking lot, people see it and run away. Some scream first, others just run. The monster heads towards the sound. The two shoppers run inside the mall. The monster smashes into the sides of several cars, to squeeze between them. It smashes through the glass wall at the entrance to the mall and goes inside. In runs inside the mall. Crashing into walls and chasing people. Dozens of people fleeing the mall. The monster’s roar echoes inside.
Neyland and Vaught stand over a beaten, bloody Barkley. He’s tied to a chair in the prison. Neyland says Barkley's done. He doesn't know anything. Neyland unholsters his sidearm.
Neyland shoots Barkley in the head. He falls to the ground dead. Neyland says they've got a new disposal spot. They untie Barkley and drag him out of the room.
Judith sits across from Rina at Channel 7. Rina assumes she's officially announcing her mayoral candidacy. She is and she's running because George is her neighbor. More importantly, she shares the info about the prison she got from Anna.
Barbra walks into the Stroke Recovery Center. She’s stopped by Dr. Carter Artest. Charley slipped into a coma when she were out. They don't expect him to wake up. Barbra wants to see him one more time. Artest heads for the elevator. Barbra follows.
Dr. Tagachi follows Dwayne towards the barn. Dwayne leads him inside. Dwayne leads Tagachi to the tarp-covered corpse of the monster. He pulls the tarp back and watches Tagachi’s reaction. The doctor is amazed. Tagachi whistles while he gets a closer look. He pulls out his phone and snaps a pic of the beast. He texts the pic to someone at the top of his contacts list.
He dials the same number. It rings once, then someone picks up. He ask if the photo was sent. He calls for a pickup crew. It's already on its way. Tagachi says "We’re gonna have somebody pick it up. Run a few tests. We’ll be in touch." Dwayne nods. Tagachi goes outside.
Karl rushes into the kitchen. Judith is doing dishes. Karl looks panicked. He's looking for his Steph rookie card. She laughs and points a thumb at the fridge. He rushes and grabs it. He hugs the card close to his chest. She tells him to be more careful. He runs back to his bedroom. Judith shakes her head and laughs.
George and Ricky walk up to the Bank’s ATM. George punches in his code. It doesn’t work. He says his account seems to be closed. He's gotta call his mom.
Allie and Kyra walk down the beach. It’s still a mess from the hurricane. They approach a bend in the beach. Kyra has Allie close her eyes. She leads Allie to Karl and a table with a meal on it. Karl holds a chilled bottle of champagne, an ice bucket nearby. Allie sees it and loves it. Allie hugs and kisses Kyra. The women sit down. Karl fills their champagne glasses. Allie loves the whole thing. They kiss. Karl rolls his eyes.
Kyra and Allie finish up their meal. Karl pours more champagne, then he gives them privacy. Allie proposes. Kyra bursts into tears of joy. Allie puts the ring on Kyra’s finger. Allie stands up and they embrace.
Karl sits at the table, finishing his sister’s leftover food. Allie and Kyra sit huddled closely, celebrating their engagement. They want to keep it a secret for now.
Koy lies on the bed in the Santa Rosa Motel, flipping channels on the TV. His phone rings. He answers. Neyland sets up a meeting. Koy calls Bundy and tells him about the ambush.
Meredith wakes up. She looks rested. She gets out of bed and puts on her robe. She walks out of her bedroom into the living room. Nobody else is there. She finds Judith, who says she looks better. Meredith heard a tornado. Dwayne tells them to get in the basement.
A tornado forms next to the Early house. It touches down in the Early’s front yard and moves towards the house.
The power goes out in the Early home. Karl screams. His sisters laugh at him. Dwayne leads them to basement.
The tornado moves closer to the Early home. It rips off the front door, which lands in the junkyard with a crash. The Hasleys look out the window at the sound. The tornado moves away from the Early home. The Hasleys duck away from the window. The tornado dissipates.
Billy, Russell and Fred watch hockey on the TV. George isn't home. The power goes out. Russell looks out the front window. He says the Earlys lost power, too. Russell digs around in the kitchen drawer and pulls out a piece of paper. It's a map of the Early home. Fred notices the door has been blown off by the storm. Russell says they can go right in and take all those supplies. They go get flashlights.
The Hasleys run from their door straight for the Early home. The tornado is gone.
Karl walks upstairs from the basement. His dad asks what he's doing. He says he's getting his Steph rookie card. He sees Russell, Billy and Fred come in through the damaged doorway to the house. They’re dripping wet. He runs to his bedroom. In his room, Karl reaches under his mattress and pulls out the gun. He walks into the kitchen, gun held out before him. He stops and watches as the Hasleys loot the pantry. Russell tears the top off a cereal box and pours Cap’n Crunch Peanut Butter cereal into his mouth. Russell sees him and grins. Karl raises the gun, pointing it at Russell. Russell sees the gun and his grin fades away. Karl tells them to get out of his house. Russell laughs. Billy and Fred look up and see the gun. They aren’t laughing. Russell says Karl won't shoot. Karl shoots. The bullet rips into Russell’s shoulder. Dwayne and Judith rush into the room. Dwayne reaches out and takes the gun from Karl. Billy and Fred tend to Russell.
Koy walks towards the town square. Neyland and Vaught jump out of the shadows and surprise Koy. Neyland and Vaught grab Koy by his arms, and direct him towards the park’s restrooms. Bundy and a large group of FBI agents emerge from the bushes and behind the building, guns drawn. FBI agents put Neyland and Vaught in cuffs and take them to a white van.
Dwayne pulls out his phone. He calls 9-1-1 and reports the shooting. Police and EMS are on the way. Dwayne hangs up. He puts his arm around Karl, who looks shell-shocked.
Hurricane Carl is off land and into the Gulf. It seems to be moving back out into the Gulf.
Tameka and her parents, Lloyd and Katrina, watch the news on TV. Anchorperson Kiki Williams reports from her studio desk. Weatherman Chet Gaines said Hurricane Carl has moved out over the Gulf. But that isn’t going to last long. It’s going to strengthen while over the Gulf waters, then it’ll hit again. Millions in damage has already been done and they can expect more.
Kiki reports on the shooting between the two families vying for the mayoral seat. An underage son of candidate Judith Early was arrested, then released to his parents. Lloyd puts the TV on mute. He calls Tameka into the room and she comes. He tells her he doesn't want her to see Karl again. She holds back tears as she runs to her room.
The Tukabatchee basketball team plays without Karl. He sits in the stands in civilian clothes. Tameka sits in the bleachers on the opposite side of the court with her parents.
They make eye contact and break it with sadness. The Tornadoes are down by 19 to Panama City Bay.
Bay has the ball and a GUARD dribbles down the court. Dennis Lien tries to steal the ball, but misses. The Bay player has a direct path to the basket. He scores an easy layup. The Tornadoes are up 21 with only 12 seconds left.
Theo takes the inbounds pass from Aaron Kleinfeld. He dribbles the ball, but doesn’t cross midcourt. The teams let the time on the clock run out. Bay wins.
The small contingent of Panama City fans erupt with joy. The home crowd is morose. Karl follows the team to the locker room, moping as he goes. Theo pats him on the back.
