In a large, seemingly endless, cubicle farm, the camera focuses on one cubicle. A woman in her late 20s, Maria, sits in the cubicle, her head down on the desk. She’s not asleep, but she’s not awake. This cubicle has no personal items, no clutter and very few items at all: a phone, a computer, a cup of pens and pencils and a motivational poster.
The clock flips to 8:00. The public announcement speaker squawks to life, making announcements throughout the movie. Maria sleeps through the announcement. She snaps to attention and sees a woman standing before her, Claudia.
Claudia says good morning. Maria asks if there's some kind of party today. Claudia gives her a name badge and tells her not to leave her desk without it. If she doesn’t follow the rules, her tenure here will, indeed, be temporary.
Maria looks down towards the name badge and it says “Maria, Senior Analyst.” She looks up to see that Claudia is gone. Maria tries to find which way Claudia went, but she’s long gone. Taylor arrives. Taylor says there’s coffee all over this place. The best coffee is in Indigenous Affairs. Maria asks where’s that at. Taylor shakes her head and says oh no, you don’t want to go NOW. They still have night shift coffee. Taylor says it's decaf. They both shiver. Taylor says they get the good stuff about 9. It’s exactly 8:01. Taylor walks away.
Maria lays with her head on the desk, drooling. Herb arrives and says ‘time to lean, time to clean.’ Maria jerks awake. Herb says there’s cake in the Conference Room. Maria asks whose birthday it is. Herb says Greg. She says it's her first day. Maria asks where’s the Conference Room is. He says there are a LOT of them. She asks where’s the one with the party. Herb says what party. Maria says Greg’s party. Herb says asks if she knows Greg. She glares at him. Herb says Greg’s party is in the Benedict Arnold Conference Room. He walks away.
Josh arrives, another white middle manager. He asks if she's the new temp. He looks her up and down, an appraisal. She holds up her employee name badge. Josh frowns. He says that’s not a temp name badge, that’s a senior analyst name badge. He says see you at the mandatory training later. Maria asks what mandatory training? When is it? He’s long gone.
A small strange bug scurries across her desk. She leaps back from it, but doesn’t really see what it looks like.
Maria walks outside of her cubicle and says hello. No one answers. She looks up and down the hallway and both directions look identical: dirty yellow carpet, grey, felt-covered modular cubicle walls, building support pillars covered in yellow felt that matches the carpet. She heads down the hallway, passing cubicle after cubicle, nobody’s home. She looks into one cubicle. It’s filled with balloons. She looks in another cubicle and every surface is covered with sticky notes, including the walls, floor and furniture. She looks in another cubicle, and it’s filled with loose jelly beans. A line of ants leads away from the jelly beans. The ants start heading in Maria’s direction. She hurries away.
She looks in another cubicle and it’s filled with plants. At first, they’re potted, then they appear to be growing out of the floor and walls. She finds herself drawn further into the cubicle. She finds herself completely surrounded by the plants. Then she finds herself in a forest. It emerges to a glen. She’s no longer inside. She looks around and finds herself eye-to-eye with a black deer-like beast with slash wounds on its side, dripping blood onto the grass. It looks at Maria with glowing red eyes. It turns and runs toward her full-speed. Maria turns and runs, the wounded beast gives chase. She runs through the forest. She stumbles and falls. She looks back to see the beast coming fast. Maria scrambles backwards and into the cubicle. The beast is unable to follow. Maria jumps to her feet and runs from the cubicle.
She walks quickly toward Julie’s cubicle. Maria looks inside the cubicle, but it’s empty. She sees a note that says “Be back in a jif, there’s cake in the conference room.” She leaves Julie’s cubicle.
A red mouse runs past Maria. A maintenance man, Freddie, chases the mouse with a net on a stick. He chases the red mouse, barely paying attention to Maria. He says gotta catch ‘em all! Freddie rushes down the hall and around a corner. Maria continues walking down the hall, looking into cubicles. They’re all empty. She sees a Green mouse. She says hey! There’s another one! Freddie is long gone. She decides to chase the mouse. It runs down the hall, around one corner, then another. Maria follows, but she can’t catch it. It runs into the Benedict Arnold Conference Room. Where everybody from Data Processing is attending Greg’s party. Maria slips into the room, trying to avoid anyone. She bumps into Taylor. Maria approaches the food table and bumps into Herb. Maria tells Herb her name. She says she's here for the cake. She asks where the cake is. He says there is no cake. He says there WAS cake. Greg ate the last of the cake. She says well, it was his cake. Maria walks past Herb. Maria can see that there are quite a few snacks left on the table. She grabs a paper plate and starts to fill the plate with food. She bumps into Claudia, who is refilling her own plate. Claudia greets her. Maria replies. The quiet makes them both anxious. Maria says she's been meaning to talk to her. Maria says she got the wrong badge. Claudia is pretty sure it's the right nametag. Maria says the name is correct, but I can assure you that I’m a temp, and am neither “senior” nor an “analyst.” Claudia puts on her glasses and leans in to read Maria’s name badge. Maria asks what she can do about it.
Claudia leans back and takes off her glasses. She says Maria will have to go to HR. Maria asks where HR is. Claudia is shocked Maria doesn't know. Josh bumps into Maria. Claudia sees Josh and frowns. She hurriedly walks away. Maria turns toward Josh and greets him. He looks her up and down, eyeing her like she’s on the menu. He's forgotten her. He asks if she's a senior analyst and tells her, if not, she shouldn’t wear that name badge. He says she should go to HR and get that fixed ASAP. She asks where HR is. He tells her to ask Claudia and says he'll see her at the mandatory training later. She asks when is the training and where the training is. Josh is long gone.
Julie stands there facing her. Julie says she's got an assignment for Maria. Julie says "You’ll need to get your walking shoes on..." Maria furrows her brow. Julie asks if Maria would compile this month’s report? It’s due by close of business. Maria declines.
Once again, Maria sits at the temp’s desk. She’s not asleep, but she’s not awake. Josh arrives and ruins everything. He says she'd better get it fixed before Internal Affairs comes for her. Josh says he has an assignment for he. Pete Kilmer over in Macro Data Refining died and she needs to write an obituary for their newsletter. Maria says she needs details about him. says she doesn’t need anything. Just write whatever. Just figure it out. Josh walks away. Josh says not to forget the mandatory training later.
Walking down the hallway, Maria sees an orange mouse. Freddie runs by, chasing the mouse with his net. Freddie says "Gotta catch ‘em all." Freddie chases the mouse around a corner and down the hall. Maria walks on to Julie’s cubicle.
Julie puts a container into the pneumatic tube on the wall. It’s whisked away. Maria says "There’s gotta be something I can do other than this obit for Josh." Julie says "Never mind that, you don’t report to Josh. Besides, I want to clear your schedule of any other tasks. I want you to take on the Report on Reports." Maria says "I thought I said no to that?" Julie says "Completing the report will save the world. Without the Report on Reports, this place will literally fall apart." Maria says she’ll consider it. Julie is very excited. Maria leaves Julie’s cubicle.
Maria is back at her desk. She straightens up the office supplies. Looks around, bored. Maria says "This place sucks." She pushes her chair back from the desk. Maria says "I don't want to work." She grabs a drum from offscreen and starts to bang on it. Maria says "I want to bang on the drum all day." Todd Rundgren's “Bang On the Drum” plays. She dances into the hallway. Maria dances and bangs on the drum. People join her from other cubicles and it’s a full-on dance scene, with choreography and everything. The others sing along. The songs ends. Everyone goes to their cubicle. Maria hands the drum to someone offscreen. She heads towards her cubicle.
She sees a purple mouse and gives it a wide berth. Freddie comes running after it. Maria says "Gotta catch ‘em all." Freddie stops, stands tall an grins. He says "Damned right!" He runs after the mouse.
Maria walks into the Temp’s Cubicle. Waiting in her chair is another middle manager, Roy. He says that as a temp, she isn’t really allowed to choose her own cubicle. He tells her to pack her things. Roy leads the way to her new cubicle. It’s identical to her previous cubicle.
She looks in the hall and sees a sign that says “Marketing.” She looks at the keyboard and sees that all the vowels and even numbers are missing. She looks in the trash can and when she sees that it’s filled with rotting food and porn. Maria goes to the filing cabinet and opens the bottom drawer. It’s upside down and all the files fall out. She opens the middle drawer. It’s filled with packing peanuts. She opens the top drawer and it’s filled with snakes. She slams the drawer and falls into her seat. Suddenly her vision is blocked by a man who looks like a younger John Waters, Marty. He bugs her about the Report on Reports. Maria isn't sure. Marty says it’s super important. Missing the deadline would mean this place would literally fall apart. " Marty comes on to her. Maria is skeezed out. Maria answers her phone. Marty nods and walks away. Morpheus is on the phone and says "They’re coming for you, Maria, and I don’t know what they’re going to do." Maria peeks out of her cubicle. She sees Internal Affairs coming down the hall.
Maria quickly ducks back into her cubicle and picks up the phone. Morpheus suggests she get out of there." He guides her to safety. Maria runs across the hall and hides in the cubicle. Internal Affairs doesn’t see her. Morpheus tells her to stay where she is for a moment. Morpheus reveals he's her union rep. Maria hangs up the phone and runs down the hallway, staying low. Internal Affairs doesn’t see her. She runs down the hall, not looking back.
Maria runs into another white middle manger, Greg. Greg looks her up and down, checking out the merchandise. Greg bugs her about her name badge. Josh walks up from behind Gregandinsults him. He shoos Greg away. Greg heads down the hall. Josh bugs her about her name badge.
Maria goes to Julie’s cubicle. Maria says she’ll do the Report on Reports." Julie is so happy she could burst. Maria asks how she gets started. Julie pulls out a form and an interoffice envelope. She tells Maria to go to all the places on the form. Each department will initial it and give her a flash drive and Maria needs to put them in the envelope. Then take them back to her desk and merge them all. Maria takes the form and envelope. Julie tells her to go to Marketing first. It's next to HR in southwest corner.
Maria walks into the hallway. She orients herself like a compass. She points in the direction she thinks is West and heads in that direction. Maria walks down the hall, but stops when she sees an armed security guard with a clipboard. He asks her name and department. She says she's "Maria the temp." The guard bothers her about her name badge. She says she's lost and trying to find HR. He says he's gonna have to call this in. He calls, but Maria smashes her hands down to hang up the phone. She turns and runs away from the Security Guard. He starts to chase her, but he sees a group of Internal Affairs officers coming down the hallway towards Maria and stops. Maria sees the IA agents as well and turns right at the first hallway she comes to. Seconds later, there’s a hallway to the left. She takes that and keeps running. She comes to three more hallways and turns the opposite way for each. She stops and looks back, but she’s lost them.
She hurries into a dark kitchen. Maria gets very careful and slow as she moves further into the room. She holds her nose as the room stinks. She looks around, the trash can is overflowing with stuff. There are flies all around the trash and the wall behind it has black mold. The sink is leaking water and is piled full with dirty, moldy dishes. The mold growth has grown so much it has connected from dish-to-dish in one large growth. It might be moving in the dark. A black mouse runs past her. She jumps and remains on one foot until the mouse runs back into the darkness. Maria makes her way to the fridge. She slowly opens the fridge and recoils from what she sees. The fridge is so filled with mold it has come to life. The massive, slimy growth reaches a tentacle out quickly and it grabs Maria’s leg. It pulls and she falls. The tentacle slowly drags Maria towards the fridge. It forms a mouth large enough to consume her and pulls her towards it. She screams in fear. She’s pulled closer and closer and closer to the thing’s maw. She kicks her free foot at the tentacle and it, too, gets stuck.
Morpheus reaches inside his leather trench coat and pulls out a spray can and a Zippo. He flicks the lighter and sprays the can, creating a flamethrower. He burns the mold. It emits a high-pitched squeal as it burns and lets go of Maria. The tentacle rolls back into the body of the mold as it burns. The whole thing continues to squeal as more and more of it catches on fire. The squealing is so loud and high-pitched that both Maria and Morpheus cover their ears with their hands. Morpheus kicks the fridge closed. The sound gets a little quieter. He helps Maria up and they run from the room.
Morpheus says this is a closed shop, everyone has a union rep. Morpheus stands up and goes to a filing cabinet. He opens a drawer and pulls out a folder. Morpheus tells her that she needs to learn that she doesn’t have stand for certain things. He says it’s your employers duty to protect her from hazards in the workplace. Morpheus tells her they are members of OPEIU. He hands her a union card. She now has access to dozens of special rooms throughout the building.
Morpheus explains unions to her then tells her to program his number into her phone. Morpheus says "with great responsibility comes great power." He says she has to be more proactive. There are forces aligned against her, but you she prevail." He leads her to a kiosk that provides directions to anywhere in the building and shows her how to use it. Morpheus walks away.
Maria prints out directions to HR. A man and a woman in all-black suits and sunglasses approach her. The man identifies them as consultants. Maria sits across a conference table from the consultants. They bug her about her nametag.
The male consultant pulls out “The Union Buster handbook” and flips through the pages. The male consultant tries to intimidate her. The female consultant denigrates her for being a union member. They run down the standard anti-union talking points. Maria says she needs to get to HR. The consultants say they'll walk her. Maria gets up and follows the consultants out of the room.
Maria and the consultants stand outside a hallway with a sign that say “Human Resources.” Maria thanks them. The male consultant tells her that everyone that works in HR is a vampire. Maria laughs. She sees no laughter from the consultants. The female consultant says it's not just here but the entire HR industry. Maria walks into HR.
The second Maria walks into HR, the lights dim. The whole area is illuminated by candles, and no exterior light penetrates through the doorway. A vampire, Drusilla, silently appears behind Maria, who doesn’t hear her. Drusilla goes to bite Maria, but Maria spots her and she ducks out of the way. The vampire lunges at her but Maria dodges and Drusilla smashes into the wall. Two other women wearing black robes come in through a doorway. Selene grabs Drusilla by the collar. Selene takes Drusilla into the back. Carmilla asks who she is. Eli emerges from the darkness as he recognizes the name of Maria, the temp. He says everyone knows of the Temp who was foretold by the Memo. Maria asks for a new name badge. Carmilla goes through a door into the back of HR. Eli and Maria follow.
Maria follows Carmilla and Eli past a glass-walled room. Inside are a group of men in cheap suits. Eli says they're accountants, hanging out hoping for leftover blood. They arrive at Pamela’s office. Pamela says they’re out of name badges. Maria asks how she's gonna do the Report on Reports. They all stare at her in shock. Miriam emerges from another office, takes a close look at Maria and then hides behind her door. Carmilla hands Maria a flash drive and says tells her she better get started. Maria hurries towards the exit. Carmilla tells Eli to keep an eye on Maria. Eli rushes after Maria. Carmilla goes into her office. Once everyone’s gone, Miriam leaves her office and follows Eli. She pulls a small handheld crossbow and makes sure it is loaded.
Maria makes her way back to the departmental directory and starts looking up departments that are on her list. Greg approaches with a smile and a wave. He looks her up and down, evaluating her body. Josh approaches from the other side of Maria and denigrates Greg. Josh thought she was a senior analyst, and asked why she's doing the Report on Reports. Maria shrugs. Josh offers to help her. She pulls the list from her pocket and hand it to him. He nods as he scans the paper. He says her problem is that it’s almost lunchtime and she's barely gotten started. She turns her back to Josh and looks up Logistics on the kiosk. Josh gets the point and walks away.
Bernice says the place WILL fall apart if she doesn't finish the Report on Reports on time.
The public announcement speaker squawks to life and tells Maria to go to the information booth. Maria shrugs and walks away. Trying to find the Information Booth. She sees a film crew standing near the booth. She approaches slowly. They're shooting a commercial. When Maria declines to appear in the commercial, the director tells her to get out of the shot. Maria discovers she’s in the camera’s line of sight. She steps out of the way, closer to the information booth. The door to the information booth opens and the Internal Affair officers spring forth to catch her. She dodges and knocks over the cameraman and he falls down, knocking over several of the Internal Affairs officers. She takes off running and turns a corner. The leader of the Internal Affairs team, Connor, is still standing, and he gives chase, solo. Maria turns several times, but Connor continues to follow her. She spots a union meeting room and bolts for the door. She slips inside and stops, panting. Connor gives chase, stopping at the doorway, he can’t enter. Connor says "Invite me in. We’ll chat." Maria refuses. Maria asks why he's after her. Connor says her flagrant disregard for the name badge policy for one. She also missed her mandatory training. Connor gets angry and tells her to quit playing games. Maria slams the door in his face. She looks around for another exit, finding a door. She’s shaken up as she exits carefully through that door. She checks the hallway for Internal Affairs agents. Seeing none, she runs down the hall.
Maria slows to a walk as she enters Logistics. A woman, Betty, sits behind an open sliding-glass window. Betty gives her a thumb drive. Maria remarks at how easy that was and moves on.
Maria prints a set of directions and walks away from the kiosk. She hears a meow coming from a cubicle. Maria steps into the cubicle, listening carefully. Another meow. It clearly comes from a filing cabinet. Maria opens the filing cabinet. A cat jumps out and Maria catches it. It scratches her and she drops it. The cat runs into the hallway and disappears around a corner. Maria walks out of the cubicle. Maria walks out of the cubicle and bumps into a woman, Lorraine. Lorraine asks what Maria was you doing in her cubicle and assumes she's here to sign the card for Marty in Receiving. She hands Maria a card and a pen. Maria signs the card. Lorraine walks back into the cubicle and says "Now it’s time to kill that damned cat." Maria overhears her and takes off running. She rounds a corner and she hears Lorraine scream. She runs around a few more corners and comes to a dead-end with a closed door. She opens the door and goes inside.
Maria finds herself in a short, dark hallway. Loud thumping muffled music comes from the end of the hallway that opens into a large dark room, where a lightshow provides the primary illumination. Sitting on a stool in front of a rope that blocks off the hallway is a burly security guard. He checks her ID. He pulls the rope out of the way and tells her to have fun. Maria smiles as she enters the nightclub. Maria makes her way onto the crowded dance floor. On the wall in the background is a neon pink sign that says “Temptations.” She immediately gives in and starts dancing. The crowd parts to give her room and to check her out. A sexy man, Maurice, dances over to Maria and starts dancing with her. Maria is into it and they dance together. They move closer and closer and they end up close enough to bump and grind. Maurice moves in as if to kiss Maria. She lets him. His mouth goes past hers and to her ear. Maurice asks her if she would you be interested in playing for the office softball team. He says they need a right fielder.
Maria pushes him away and dances towards the other side of the dancefloor. Maurice walks away. A sexy woman, Carmilla, dances over to Maria and starts dancing with her. Maria is into it and they dance together. They move closer and closer and they end up close enough to bump and grind. Carmilla moves in as if to kiss Maria. Maria lets her. Her mouth goes past Maria’s and to her ear. Carmilla asks her if she would you be interested in playing for the office softball team. They need a short stop. Maria pushes her away and dances towards the other side of the dancefloor. Carmilla walks away. She runs from the dance club.
Maria looks at a speaker in the hallway with disgust. She looks at her Report on Reports list. Maria thinks she'll never make it. She walks into three men who block the hallway. They direct her towards an open door. Maria asks if this meeting is mandatory. All three men simultaneously say yes.
Maria sighs and goes into the room. The men follow her and shut the door behind them. It's a captive MLM meeting. Later, the door bursts open and dozens of workers rush from the room. Maria is among the first.
Maria hurries down the hall, looking for the bathroom. She finds it, but it's out of order. She hurries further down the hallway and goes in the men’s room. She walks into a thick cloud of smoke, as several men are in the restroom are smoking weed. One of the men is Willie Nelson. He welcomes her. Woody Harrelson is also there. Maria says she really has to pee. Willie says don’t let the, stop her. He lights up a joint. Maria enters a stall and drops her pants. Willie starts singing "Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other."
Back in the hallway, she bumps into Eli. He says he's headed to HR. Maria says they’re nowhere near HR. Eli asks if she's been smoking weed. She says no. She hurries away. Eli writes in his notepad.
Maria stops at a water cooler and pours herself a cone of water. She drains the cone and crumples it. She spots a trash can and a recycling bin, side-by-side. She considers for a moment. Maria throws the paper cone in the trash can. Office workers file into the hallway with torches and pitchforks. Maria sees the crowd and starts to move away from them. They give chase. She escapes the crowd.
Maria looks up and sees a sign that says “Accounting.” She heads deeper into the department. She puts a thumb drive in her envelope, then seals it shut.
Maria turns a corner and bumps into Claudia. Claudia says she needs Maria's thank you card for her Secret Santa. Maria is puzzled, as she didn't participate. Claudia doesn’t care, she wants it done by 5. And she wants a return receipt from the mail room on her desk. Maria leaves. Eli secretly follows her. Miriam sneaks around the corner and secretly follows Eli.
Maria walks down the hall reading from directions she got at the kiosk. She walks into a clear obstruction that blocks the hallway. Maria examines the membrane and finds that it is soft, cold and slimy. She looks at the directions she printed out and says there is no other way to get to IT. She reaches out and touches the membrane. She starts pushing on the membrane. Her hand pushes into the membrane and starts to push through. Maria pushes harder and her arm goes all the way through. She continues moving forward and her entire body moves through. She has to push hard to make it. She comes out the other side, covered in slime. She continues on to IT.
Maria shakes off as much slime as she can as she walks along. Maria enters the IT lobby and she runs into the consultants. The male consultant says "We understand that you’ve been heavily involved in union activity..." The female consultant says "We consider ourselves part of a family around here..." The male consultant says "We really don’t have room in our family for union activists." The female consultant says "We don’t want to you to walk away empty-handed." The male consultant offers you a deferred resignation buyout for $20,000. The male consultant says Maria doesn't have to worry about the Report on Reports if she accepts the offer. Maria asks what will happen to the report if she signs. The male consultant says they’ll have to scrap it and start over. Maria asks if the place fall apart if the report isn’t turned in on time. The male consultant says that is hyperbole. Maria says she'll have to consider it.
Maria walks into the IT office. Carrie, the IT secretary walks Maria into the conference room. Maria puts the IT thumb drive in her envelope and seals it. Carrie says "It’s our regular monthly cake party to celebrate everyone’s birthdays." Carrie says she's the head of the party planning committee. Maria cuts herself a piece of a large cake on the conference table. She walks away from the table and sits on a folding chair. She starts eating the cake. In the back of the room, Eli eats cake and watches Maria. She doesn’t notice. A sleazy man, Gordon, sits down next to Maria. He tries to look her up and down, but she’s not seated in a sexy way. Gordon introduces himself, but her mouth is full. The more Gordon talks, the faster she eats. Maria gets up and walks over to the trash cans. She tosses her paper plate. She takes her metal spoon towards the sink. Carrie sees her coming and blocks Maria’s path. Carrie asks what Maria's planning on doing with that spoon. Maria holds the spoon up and looks at it and says she was gonna toss it in the sink. Carrie complains that Maria going to leave it dirty. Carrie asks if Maria thinks she can shit on those who DO work in this department. Maria throws the spoon over Carrie’s head towards th/e sink. Carrie watches it incredulously. Maria takes off running, leaving the conference room. The spoon bounces off the wall and lands on the floor. Frosting smears the wall and the carpet. Carrie is enraged. Carrie vows to get revenge. Maria exits IT and runs down the hallway.
Maria notices it’s almost 4 p.m. and she panics. She runs down the hall. Maria walks out of the Branding department. She puts a thumb drive in her envelope and seals it. Maria walks out of the Viral Marketing department. She puts a thumb drive in her envelope and seals it. Maria walks out of the President's office. She puts a thumb drive in her envelope and seals it. Maria walks out of the Community Outreach. She puts a thumb drive in her envelope and seals it.
Maria walks down the hall. Eli steps in front of her, from a side hallway. He asks if she got the last thumb drive. She says yes. He tells her hand him the envelope." Maria says no fucking way. He says he'll unleash the eight-hundred pound gorilla. He pulls on a chain hidden in the side hallway and an eight-hundred pound gorilla enters the hallway. It growls at Maria. She screams, then she turns to run. The gorilla swats her arm, knocking the envelope from her hand as she falls to the ground. Eli grabs the envelope and walks away. The gorilla growls at Maria. She scrambles to her feet and runs down the hall. The gorilla doesn’t follow.
Maria turns a corner and runs into Connor and several other Internal Affairs. Two of the Internal Affairs grab her and put her in cuffs. Conor leads them down the hallway towards Internal Affairs. Freddie the janitor watches from further down the hall. The officers bring her into the Internal Affairs area. They take the cuffs of her and put her in a cell. Conor grabs a chair, turns it around backwards and straddles it, facing Maria in the cell. Before him is Maria’s envelope with all the hard drives. He turns to the other Internal Affairs officers. Conor reads from his notebook. He says he heard she's been participating in an illegal MLM. She denies it. He accuses her of smokin’ weed in the boys room. She denies that, too. He accuses her of refusing to comply with the company’s name badge policy, despite repeated instructions about the policy. She says he needs to tell her what's going on she's calling the cops. He says she is The Temp foretold of in the Memo. They have to stop her from fulfilling the prophecy. He says she'll NEVER complete the Report on Reports!" He walks out of the room, leaving a frustrated Maria. He’s carrying the envelope with all the hard drives. She lies down on a cot in the cell.
Maria sleeps on a cot. Freddie the janitor comes into the jail and quietly opens the cell. Freddie sets her free. She comes across a green rat. She screams as she jumps over it. Maria leaves. Freddie chases the rat.
Maria heads into the women’s room. Maria walks towards a stall. A roach passes behind her, but she doesn’t see it. She goes in the stall pulls down her pants and sits. Another roach passes under her stall and out the other side. She screams and pulls her feet in close. Two more roaches cross in front of her. She stands up and pulls her pants up. Roaches start flowing out of the toilet. She screams and exits the stall. Waves of roaches flow out from under the stalls. She screams as enough roaches flow in, they lift her from the floor and she coasts towards the door. The roaches start to overtake her. The door opens and Morpheus’s hand reaches out and grabs her. He pulls her out of the bathroom. More and more roaches fill up the room.
Maria sits across the table from Morpheus. Miriam steps in with a crossbow and shoots Morpheus in the chest. Morpheus falls to the floor, dying.
Internal Affairs officers break in and grab Miriam. Maria cradles Morpheus’s head. She says she's gonna get him help. He says it's too late for him and tells her to listen. He says she must finish the Report on Reports! If not, this place will literally fall apart. Morpheus tells her to go to the OPEIU office and see Trinity. He says she still has time. Her fellow union members worked and got every department to put reports on the Intranet! All you have to do is compile them.
Maria gets and runs from the room, crying. Once she’s gone, Morpheus lets go and he passes. Maria runs down the hallway. She stops at the kiosk and prints out directions to the OPEIU office. She runs down the hallway. Maria arrives at the OPEIU office. Ann buzzes Maria into the back.
She goes to the back of the OPEIU Office. Trinity meets Maria in the OPEIU Office hallway. She tells Maria to follow her, she's got everything open on a computer for Maria already. Trinity leads her to a small office with a computer already on and ready to go. Maria finishes the report and hits print. She grabs the printed report and runs.
Trinity stands next to Ann’s desk, chatting. Maria bursts into the room, waving the report. She asks where she's supposed to go. Trinity tells her to go to the President's office.
Maria stands at the directory kiosk, printing out directions. She runs into Greg, who blocks her way. She tells him to shut the fuck up and pushes him to the side. She runs past him and bumps into Josh. Josh looks her up and down and denigrates Greg then asks her if she has written the obit. Maria punches him in the face, knocking him unconscious. She runs on down the hall.
The president asks if there is any idea when the Report on Reports is gonna arrive. It’s 5:07, this place is going to start falling apart. Literally. A chunk of ceiling tile crashes to the floor. Maria runs into the office and straight to the president. She hands him the report. Conor, several IA Officers and Eli run in at the same time. Conor and Eli express disappointment.
Maria apologizes. The president says they don’t really need it until tomorrow afternoon’s board meeting. Maria is shocked.
Julie escorts Maria into the conference room. It’s filled all the people she’s met today. Everyone’s dancing. Maria AND Julie join the dancers.
A post-credits scene shows Maria asleep at her desk. Maria shakes her head and starts to curse. Needle drop.
